Dr. Dawn Young: Dr. Young graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College of the University of Guelph in 1989 and joined the staff of the Manotick Veterinary Hospital in January of 1992. She became a partner in the practice in the summer of 1996. She now combines the management of a busy and growing practice with her great love - veterinary medicine. Dr. Young's special interests include dentistry, internal medicine, geriatric medicine, and surgery. She has been providing key medical and surgical services to the wonderful dogs of the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind since 2000. Dr. Young has two dogs, Ben and Murphy. Dr. Heather Matheson-Rakita: Dr. Matheson-Rakita joined the staff of the Manotick Veterinary Hospital as an associate right out of veterinary college in 1996. She is a graduate of the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of P.E.I. She and her husband Sam set up permanent residence in Nepean in 1994. Dr. Matheson-Rakita especially enjoys working with diabetic animals and their owners, with older animals who need pain medication and some T.L.C. to make their old age comfortable, and with young and silly puppies and kittens. She has three pets: Maggie, her Border Collie; and Grendel and Aja her two cats. Her daughter Ellen was born in 1999 and her son William in 2002. Dr. Kathleen Casey: Dr. Casey began working with us in August 2001, and is our newest associate. Dr. Casey is a 1997 graduate of the Université de Montréal and until her recent move to Ottawa was an associate of L'Hôpital Vétèrinaire Montréal-Ouest. She is fluent in both French and English. Dr. Casey enjoys the challenge of treating animals with an endocrine disease - in particular Cushing's Disease (Hyperadrenocorticism). Dr. Barbara P. Lewars: Dr. Lewars graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph in 1986. She became a partner in the Manotick Veterinary Hospital in 1991, just one year after joining the practice, and built the new facility on Rideau Valley Drive, with Dr. Kenneth Sanderson, in 1992. In 1996 Dr. Lewars and her family moved to Orangeville, Ontario when her husband Dave was offered a new position. While her ties to this hospital are still very strong, her time in Manotick is limited. She has a new practice in Orangeville - the Westend Veterinary Hospital. You can also see her veterinary hospital at this address. Dr. Lewars' special interests include surgery, ultrasonography, and teaching. In 1996 Dr. Lewars became accredited with the PEN HIP program for hip certification.
